The full program for this year’s Göteborgs Kulturkalas, August 28–30, is out now! New names on the lineup include dance band legends Lasse Stefanz, Linnea Henriksson and Norlie & KKV. Meanwhile, the city’s cultural venues open their doors for unique experiences, and the festival area is expanding right in the heart of Gothenburg.
The festival will also host RIX FM Festival, featuring live performances by Norlie & KKV, Linnea Henriksson, Saga Ludvigsson, John Lundvik, Klara Hammarström, Liamoo, Maria Jane Smith, Hanna Ferm, Ella Tiritiello, and Erik Segerstedt.
As previously announced, Bob Hund will play their final Gothenburg concert during the festival. Other big names include Seinabo Sey, Silvana Imam, Marcus & Martinus, and Y4ska. Most concerts will take place on the main stage at Kungstorget, while Lasse Stefanz takes over Kajskjul 8 for a full evening of dance.
– This year’s lineup offers a wide range of music genres. We hope and believe there’s something for everyone, says Anna Mjörnvik, project manager for Göteborgs Kulturkalas.
The city opens up – cultural institutions invite the public
As part of the festival, major cultural institutions across the city will open their venues free of charge. Stora Teatern, Göteborgs Stadsteater, Göteborg Opera, and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra will host concerts, performances, and experiences for all. The Symphony Orchestra will perform a summer concert at the Concert Hall, and the Opera House will offer open rehearsals and musical previews. Guided tours will also be available at Börsen – a rare chance to experience this historic building, usually closed to the public.
All events during the festival are free of charge and open to everyone, although some require advance booking.
– The most popular programs usually fill up quickly, so it’s a good idea to book early to secure your spot, says Anna Mjörnvik.
Four festival hubs in the city center – and even more throughout Gothenburg
This year, the central festival area expands with Kungsparken – a brand-new venue focused on circus, movement, and international performances, in collaboration with the Dance and Theatre Festival and the Department of Sports and Associations. Activities for all ages will be offered.
The Street Food Festival also grows, extending from Basargatan to Bältespännarparken, where BBQ-themed food trucks will serve delicious meals in a single-use-free environment. This will also be the site of the national finals in both the Swedish Street Food and Sweet Food Championships. On August 28 at Kungstorget, the winner of Göteborgsmåltiden will be crowned – a project that aims to promote pride in local food culture, encourage healthier eating habits, and support a more sustainable future. The winner earns the honor of creating Gothenburg’s signature dish, which can represent the city in culinary contexts.
Once again, Avenyn joins the festival map. Selected restaurants along the iconic boulevard invite you to indulge in special festival flavors right in the heart of the festivities.
Grönsakstorget returns as the hub for youth – featuring DJs, workshops, dance, live acts, and performances by both emerging and established artists. Kungstorget remains the festival’s main stage for the biggest concerts.
– With these four connected festival sites, we want to create a natural flow through the city center, where visitors can stroll around, discover new experiences, and enjoy culture and celebration in their everyday life, says Anna Mjörnvik.
Beyond the city center, Kulturkalaset spreads as usual to other parts of Gothenburg – from Flunsåsparken in Hisingen to Positivparken in Frölunda. Among many other events, Ö-festen will take place at Ringön and Parapulsfestivalen at Slottsskogsvallen.
See you in August!
